The State Department of Education requires that all students must pass the Math A examination (MXRA) as a requirement for graduation. This is in addition to six academic credits in mathematics.
Below is the course sequence for the Mathematics Department at Jamaica High School, current as of 11/21/02. There are three tracks for incoming freshmen. Track one for below-average students (MG1); track two for average incoming freshmen (M$A); and track three for above-average incoming freshmen (M$1). Students of the latter track usually reach the pre-calculus or AP calculus courses.
