Editor's Notebook For the very first issue of RED & BLUE I thought it would be nice to give some personality to this edition. Most papers are merely statistical and I wanted this to be different. There are quotes from every fall team that show that sports is about more than just wins and losses. There are people behind the uniforms! Some quotes are inspired, cute or lighthearted; overall they show that while some people are driven by sports, all sports are driven by people. |

"The chance to be involved in one of the oldest games invented." was the reason Chamane enjoyed the Fencing season. Many of the fencers had their own reasons for joining and for why they relished the season. David explains, "Being on the fencing team gave me a strong sense of responsibility." Team captain Philip reflects on the season: "There was more team spirit than previous years and members were willing to overcome fear of matches." Emmanuel agreed when he said he liked "to be unified with a team for one purpose, winning with teamwork." Farhana especially enjoyed participating in a sport that is "played by both genders, unlike other sports." > > > TOP |
Let’s Go Bowling!

By Mr. Heiss. "I was extremely happy with how the team developed over this past year. Last year they were 1-10. This year we finished 6-6. We were very competitive. The bowlers supported each other and all improved. It was a great experience for me." > > > TOP

By: Coach Pallisco. The team developed nicely as the season progressed. They finished with 6 wins and 1 loss in four scrimmages and three games. Key players were Nathanial Ford, Marc McLeod, Haris Jones, Andre Hilton, and Edward Byam. The team had an explosive offense and an attacking defense. "Overall, I was pleased with the players and their desire to win." Tyrell, one of the freshmen football players commented, "I learned that if you come to the games, you can get more respect from your coaches." Head Coach Pallisco, as well as Coach Alsofrom, and Coach Delva led the team this year.

The Girls Varsity Swim Team certainly made Jamaica proud this past season. The girls, led by Coach Warman had a remarkable season in which they became the division champions. When asked about their fantastic season, this is how they responded:
"We’re the Champs!!" Justine.
"I learned that if you stick your butt up in butterfly, you’ll move faster." Abeni.
"After this swim season I learned that you have to work really hard to get what you want." Daniella.
All season long, enthusiasm for the team was consistently expressed by their captain Cardilla. It’s no wonder that the girls are the best, with a lot of support and plenty of enthusiasm. > > > TOP
If you've never seen a Beavers soccer game, you've really missed something special. They have risen up this past season to shine on the field. Eddie especially liked "the way we came from the bottom of last season to the top ranks of this season." What made the season so much more special was the last game victory against Edison. The boys’ spirits are high as many look forward to next season. Esmir said, "We had a great season and a great opportunity to win the championships this year, but due to one little problem we were not successful. Hopefully, we will have better luck next season and win ourselves the championship." > > > TOP
Lady Beavers VolleyballThe Lady Beavers have proved to Jamaica that volleyball is not for wimps. It involves strength of mind, and an immense amount of patience and teamwork. Sascha told me what she learned from this past season, "I learned how to work with my peers. Being that this is a sport where six people have to work together on the court, it is important to be able to take advice on how you can improve your skills." The volleyball team was usually seen after-school practicing and helping each other with the execution of needed moves. The coach is always a big influence on any team. Reine told of what the coach expected of the girls, "a coach wants you to be more aggressive, ambitious and never give up." These girls illustrate the importance of working together and listening.

The girls’ track team is all about endurance. Coaches Coles and Delva helped the girls work hard the entire season. The girls’ track team is of a special breed; they carry a lot of pride. They are very proud to be track runners, and very proud of their accomplishments. There are a lot of things that must be kept in mind at all times. Shereka remembers an important rule, "you have to pace yourself for the miles." > > > TOP
First period of the day, while passing by Gym 3, there is a good chance you will see Mr. Gregov and Ms. Sutera. They teach a tennis and badminton course that breeds very good tennis/badminton players. Some of the spring tennis players are in the class as well. But there are a few who shine, even though they are not regular players. For Mr. Gregov’s class, these are the top three badminton players in the class: > > > TOP
