JAMAICA HIGH SCHOOL TIME CAPSULE
CORNERSTONE CEREMONY
FOR THE NEW BUILDING - JUNE 29 1925

Undated photo looking east toward 168th St, about 1PM.

A sunny but blustery day with flags snapping and bunting and banners billowing. A few policemen, two mounted. A uniformed color guard and band already dispersed among the assemblage. A few umbrellas held against the sun. Many youngsters in knickers and kneesocks, some with books. Workmen watching the crowd, which is mostly looking toward the rough platform where one man stands, speaking: Mayor John F. Hylan.(?) Click here to examine the details in a larger image. See some of the interesting details below.

New York's Finest, Dismounted. High school girls in cloche hats and flapper styles listening or squinting in the sun, looking at
the camera. The well dressed young
man in 1925: lace-up, high-top shoes, knee socks, knickers, baseball shirt, newsboy cap. More students. This could be Mayor Hylan...or not. This is Mayor Hylan.
Looking north at the platform. Principal Charles Vosburgh, with straw 'skimmer' or 'boater' hat, sitting in the center, just to the left of the man at the rail. Group of workmen who will help with the cornerstone. Probably one of the persons mentioned on the program below, but which one?
Picture from the Beaver Book, p. 11. Note trowel in center.
