Terry Silver, '62

Professor of Radiology,
University of Michigan

Dr. Silver is Professor of Radiology, and a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, and has been an examiner for the American Board of Radiology since 1985.

He has been involved with the interpretation and teaching of diagnostic ultrasound and plain radiographs for 30 years.

Dr. Silver was recently awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the American Board of Radiology in recognition of his many years of devoted service to the board, and his commitment to the board's certification process.

Other honors include the Harry Z. Mellins, M.D., Master Teacher Award in Radiology, and the W. Frederick Sample Memorial Award.

He served as the first associate chairman of the Department of Radiology from 1984-92, the Director (1976-87) and Co-Director (1987-92) of the Ultrasound Division, and is currently the Director of Postgraduate Medical Education Programs for the department. He has held leadership positions and has served on various committees for the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the American College of Radiology, the Radiological Society of America, the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, the Society of Uroradiology, the Michigan Sonographers Society and the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Dr Silver's research has resulted in more than 80 peer-reviewed published articles in scientific journals, the vast majority of which are ultrasound related, with some of his earlier publications in thoracic radiology. In addition he has given more than 125 presentations and lectures both in the United States and internationally, and he's served as visiting professor at 27 different medical centers and universities, both in the U.S. and abroad.
