Moses Taylor, '42?

5/10/1924 - 10/1/2004

Bishop, Long Island City Gospel Church World Outreach Ministries,

His Grace, Bishop Moses Taylor, founder of The Long Island City Gospel Tabernacle and presiding Bishop over Long Island City Gospel Church World Outreach Ministries Inc., went home to be with the Lord on October 1, 2004.

On May 10, 1924, Moses Taylor was born to the late Eugene Taylor and Grace Maria Powell-Taylor in New York City. Moses graduated from Jamaica High School in New York City. He met and married the late Natividad Olaira who preceded him in death. From this union was born a son Wesley Gordon Taylor who also preceded him in death.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in June of 1943 and received an Honorable Discharge in November of 1945. He attended New York University where he majored in dietary studies. He was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture as a Meat & Food Inspector where he worked many years before retiring.

In October 1961, Moses was divinely directed by the late Bishop Roderick R. Caesar to lead a prayer service in Long Island City, New York. Rev Annie Albert was the Pastor. It was on 12th Street in a little house that was home to this small mission. Pastor Taylor stayed with the group of 8 to 12 people, praying for God to open a door to start a ministry in the Long Island City area.

The prayer was answered. Under the direction of Bishop Roderick Caesar and the 12 members of that prayer band, Pastor Taylor was installed as Pastor. He began pioneering the ministry known as Long Island City Gospel Tabernacle. They moved from the house to the democratic club across the street, where they fed the hungry, provided clothing and spiritual guidance.

He received his Bachelor of Theology from Bethel Bible Institute and earned his Doctorate from United Christian College under the tutelage of Dr. Irene Powell. After many years of building and establishing ministry, Pastor Taylor was consecrated to the Office of Bishop in October 1993. He graciously occupied the Office, bringing guidance and leadership to many ministries locally as well as across the country. Bishop Taylor was a prolific teacher and preacher and has trained and equipped hundreds of people for the gospel ministry. Bishop Taylor was retired from full time ministry, but continued as the Dean and Founder of the Center of Hope International Bible Institute, and provided covering and leadership to many sons and daughters through the World Outreach Ministries, where his son Pastor Mitchell G. Taylor faithfully served with him.

In June of 1995 he met and married Beatrice Young, who became the joy and peace of his life. They shared several years together before his illness and were able to share wonderful times together. Beatrice also faithfully took care of Bishop during his illness and added more years to his life. The family will always remember her labor of love.
