JAMAICA HIGH SCHOOL TIME CAPSULE -- 1911 DIPLOMA

This diploma was found by Ms Sue Sutera, Phys Ed teacher, in June 2005, 94 years after it was awarded. It was found in a desk in the Teachers Center. It had once been framed but was found without the frame, mounted in white matting board. It had been repaired with masking tape on the reverse. Wrinkles on one end suggest that it had first been crumpled while rolled up before it was matted and framed. Other items found with this diploma suggest that it had been hidden in the desk since approximately 1950, or for 55 years. It has been placed in an archival envelope and is now stored in the Library Reference Room. At this time we have no information about Abraham Band or how his diploma came back to Jamaica High School. It has often happened, however, that such items have been offered to the school by family members after the demise of a JHS alumnus or alumna.
