"Their names are Desmond Lawley (rear) and Peter James (front). The picture was taken in the spring of 1967 on the JHS track. I remember when it was taken, I was on the team at the time. Both men graduated with me in 1968. They were good friends and fierce competitors. Hilltopper came down to the track to photograph and interview some of the athletes because the team was doing very well and getting ready for the city finals. The photographer was Rodney Darensbourg. (See 1968 yearbook page 127.)"
"I was on the team '65,'66 and '67. I did not run in '68. During those years the rivalry was Jamaica HS against Andrew Jackson HS (Now renamed, I believe). I have some 1965, 1966, 1967 Hilltopper articles (that are very brown) in a scrapbook that I haven't opened in 30+ years. They are so old that the scotch tape is falling off."
"As for me, I graduated in 1968 and was in the Army until 1987, coming out as a Master Sergeant. I now have a BS and a MS from NYIT in both Human Resources Management and Labor Relations. I am working toward earning a Ph.D. with Capella University in Organizational Management with a Human Resources Development Specialization. I've been in government for 37 years and now work for the US Dept of Labor by day and I teach Human Resources Management and Employment Law by night at Dowling College, SUNY Stony Brook. I have also taught at NYIT where I am a double alumnus."
