JAMAICA HIGH SCHOOL TIME CAPSULE

ROSAMUND JOSLYN
JAMAICA HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARIAN

Rosamund Joslyn, pictured here in 1925, served as Jamaica High School's librarian from 1911 until her sudden death in 1944. During her tenure she moved the library from the Hillside Avenue building to the new building, which opened in February 1928. She also worked with muralist Suzanne Miller in 1931, researching Long Island history to help determine what topics should be included in the mural and what the images might look like.

For 61 years this small brass plaque was attached to a swiveling dictionary stand in the library. Unfortunately, after 61 years of time's ravages, the stand was wobbling and splintering and could no longer be used. The plaque was removed from the stand and has been digitally scanned. Its image resides here to perpetuate in cyberspace this memorial to Ms Joslyn's thirty-three years of dedicated service to Jamaica High School.
